BELVEDERE “CASTELLO”

Dove oggi c’è un prato verde che si affaccia su tutte le Langhe, un tempo sorgeva un Castello che controllava tutta la vallata sottostante.

Il vecchio castello compare, per la prima volta, nelle cronache nell’anno 980 in un atto di donazione fatto dal chierico Guido, figlio del Conte Oberto del Comitato di Asti, all’Abbazia di S. Pietro di Breme Lomellina.

Le varie guerre del tempo portarono alla distruzione completa del Castello medievale ma il suo nome è rimasto nella memoria dei Verdunesi che, ancora oggi, chiamano l’attuale parco del Belvedere – uno dei più belli delle Langhe – proprio “castello”.

BELVEDERE ‘’CASTLE”

Where there is a green lawn overlooking all the “Langhe” today, a castle that controlled the entire valley below stood once.

The old castle appears, for the first time, in the chronicles in the year 980 in an act of donation made by the cleric Guido, son of Count Oberto, of the Committee of Asti, to the Abbey of San Pietro of Breme Lomellina.

The various wars of the time led to the complete destruction of the medieval

castle, but its name remained in the memory of the Verdunese people, who call the current park of Belvedere – one of the most beautiful of the Langhe – “castle” even today.
