Col termine “ricetto” si indica un raggruppamento medioevale di case recinte da mura in cui si raccoglievano gli abitanti della campagna in caso di pericolo.

Questo luogo è tipico del Piemonte medioevale.

Intorno al primo antico castello (Castrum), distrutto secoli fa e che era posto in posizione dominante rispetto alla valle sottostante, nel luogo in cui ora si trova il Belvedere, possiamo ancora oggi intravedere, in base alla attuale struttura topografica del paese, una serie di case in cui i Verdunesi si raccoglievano in caso di attacco.

Qui sorge ancora l’antica Chiesa di San Rocco, ora sconsacrata e di proprietà di privati.

Oggi questo antico sito è attraversato da un vicolo panoramico, via del Portone, che domina la vallata.

The shelter

Shelter (in Italian “ricetto”) is a grouping of medieval houses, fenced by walls, where inhabitants of the countryside took refuge in cases of danger.

This place is typical of medieval Piedmont.

Around the first, ancient castle (Castrum), destroyed centuries ago and placed in a dominant position with respect to the valley below, in the place where now the Belvedere is located, also today, according to the current topographical structure of the village, we can catch a glimpse of a series of houses where the inhabitants of Verduno countryside were gathered in case of attack.

Here still stands the old church of S. Rocco, now deconsecrated and privately owned.

Today, this ancient place is crossed by a panoramic alley (via del Portone) that overlooks the valley.
